The Eight Kootas, Read

Graha Maitri, worth 5, is where a parihara changed the result. It tests friendship between the lords of the two Moon signs: Mars for Mesha and Mercury for Mithuna. Because Mars and Mercury are inimical by nature, the raw score is 0.5 of 5. Muhurta Chintamani v.33 withdraws that enmity where the two Rashis stand in Sandu-koota, third from each other, as Mesha and Mithuna do. With the enmity counted as neutral rather than hostile, Graha Maitri scores 3 of 5, up from a raw 0.5, and the total uses the lifted figure.

• The eight kootas with their exemptions — Nadi, Bhakoot, Gana, Graha Maitri and the smaller four, from tables rebuilt out of Muhurta Chintamani — with the parihara verses that withdraw a dosha applied and named. Sources

Both charts are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris on the Lahiri ayanamsa. The eight koota tables are rebuilt from the printed Muhurta Chintamani, pp. 107–116, including the exemption verses most calculators omit — one of which withdrew 468 incorrect Nadi Doshas from this engine when it was applied. The chart reading draws on Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika and Saravali. Where a koota's table cannot be sourced, the report says so and cites no text for it.

Frequently asked questions

You offer Guna Milan free. Why pay for this?

Because the free score answers a narrower question than people think it does. Ashtakoot compares the two Moon-nakshatras and nothing else — the ascendants, the seventh houses, Venus, both navamsas and the periods now running could all be different and the total would not move. This report reports that total honestly and then spends eight sections on what it leaves out, including both seventh houses with their Ashtakavarga counts. If the 36 points are all you want, take them free; that is why they are free.

We scored below 18. Is the match off?

Not on this evidence. We tested Ashtakoot against 123 real marriages with both partners' birth times verified, and the score did not sort them — high scorers and low scorers were not distinguishable by outcome. A low total is a fact about two nakshatras, and the report says so plainly rather than dressing it up. What the rest of the reading does is look at the things the score never examined.

We have Nadi Dosha. Does this report just confirm it?

It checks the exemptions first, which most calculators do not. The classical texts carry verses that withdraw Nadi Dosha in specific conditions, and applying them removed 468 incorrect Nadi Doshas from this engine. Where one applies to you, the report names the verse and quotes what it says. Where none applies, it tells you that too — the value is that you find out which of the two you are, with the reasoning shown.

Do we both need exact birth times?

Yes, and this is the one report where it is not negotiable. The free Guna Milan tool needs only a Moon-nakshatra and can sometimes work from a date alone. This reads both seventh houses, both navamsas and both dasha clocks, none of which survive a guessed time — an hour of error moves a lagna a whole sign. If one of the two times is uncertain, say so, and treat that half of the reading as provisional.

It is shorter than your other reports. Why?

Because it reads one subject across two charts, where the career and birth chart reports sweep a whole life area. It runs about 2,400 words across ten sections, and every section is written to its full length — it is dense rather than short. We would rather tell you that than pad it.
